MADISON, WI (KDAL) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding ATV and UTV drivers and riders to always wear a helmet and seat belt when operating the vehicles.
So far this year in Wisconsin, there have been 11 fatalities and many serious injuries due to ATV-UTV crashes and most were not wearing seat belts or helmets.
Other safety reminders include driving sober since alcohol is the top contributing factor in crashes and slowing down.
ATV and UTV operators can also take an online safety course at the DNR Safety Education website: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/Education/OutdoorSkills/safetyEducation
All operators born after January 1st of 1988 are legally required to take the course.
